Preschool children from Sandbrook Park Nursery and residents at nearby Half Acre House care home in Rochdale have struck up an unlikely friendship, breaking down barriers between young and old.
The children asked for song requests and one centenarian woman; aged 104 was delighted when she was taken back to her childhood with ‘Wheels on the bus.’ Aoife sang a solo of ‘Twinkle, twinkle’ to the joy of the residents.
Earlier on in the day, the children had baked some Easter bunny biscuits to share with their new friends. Both young and old talked about all the exciting things happening over Easter. The atmosphere was electric, and some of the children even had the residents up dancing with them! Lesley Ryder, one of the Care home managers, said ”All the residents enjoyed the visit. It brightened up their day. Sandbrook Park Nursery have been here before and the residents really enjoy these visits.” Katie Webster, nursery manager said, “The children and the residents had so much fun today, and we can’t wait for our next visit”.
