Redvales nursery identified that mathematics was an area they wanted to develop. From this they created a baking file in each room, and the children enjoyed baking on a weekly basis, and using their maths to weigh out ingredients etc.
Sue the cook, has been carrying out lots of different activities with the children baking biscuits, cakes, chopping vegetables, weighing and measuring and the children even made their own spring rolls.
Staff have incorporated more mathematics into the rooms with number lines indoors and outdoors, new investigation areas and colour of the week across all rooms. Staff have seen a great improvement with the children’s interest and mathematical language and hope to see significant improvements over the coming months.
